Can whiplash cause you to suffer pain in your head? In the UK hundreds of thousands of vehicles use the road systems every day and largely do so without incident. The process of the injury is that you are pushed forward and your body starts to move forward until the seatbelt starts to restrain you. When the seatbelt restrains you, your head -- which is not restrained -- continues to move forward until it reaches its extreme range of movement and snaps back against the seat. It is this violent throwing forwards and backwards which overstretches your neck muscles and causes whiplash injury. However, can it also cause head pain? Whiplash head injury It is a frequent side effect of whiplash that people do experience headaches and head pains. It can be a similar pain to a migraine, causing severe pain. This can be due to the nerves in your neck causing the pain, or simply the fact that your head has been violently shaken.
