Everyone knows that engines need oil. But Firestone Complete Auto Care wants you to know how to make sure your vehicle has enough. Frequent oil changes are the best insurance policies for vehicle longevity. Your first step should be to check your owners manual for the recommended oil change schedule. To check your oil, first make sure your vehicle is parked on level ground and open the hood of your vehicle. Find the dipstick, a long piece of metal sticking out of the engine with a loop at one end. Pull the loop and draw the dipstick all the way out of the reservoir. Wipe all of the oil off the dipstick with a paper towel or rag. Replace the clean dipstick, making sure to push it all the way in, then pull it back out and hold it horizontally in front of you. Look at the pointy end of the dipstick. If the oil on the dipstick is below the line marked "full," add a small amount of oil (less than a quarter of a quart) with a funnel. Many dipsticks simply have 2 lines with a cross hatch design in between. The oil level should be halfway between these 2 lines. Also check the color and condition of the oil. If it looks particularly sludgy, it might be time for an oil change, even if the manual says you have a few thousand miles remaining. At Firestone Complete Auto Care, we have several oil change services to protect your engine. Visit Firestone Complete Auto Care online: www.FirestoneCompleteAutoCare.com Video Rating: 5 / 5
